Break of structure (BOS)

Market Structure Mastery

Continuation, confirmed

A break of structure happens when price closes beyond the most recent swing point in the direction of the current trend. In an uptrend, that means closing above the last swing high, continuation confirmed.

Not a reversal signal

BOS is a continuation signal, not a reversal signal. It tells you the trend that was already in place just proved itself again, not that something new is starting.

License to stay with the trend

Traders use a confirmed BOS as license to keep trading with the trend, looking for pullback entries in the same direction rather than fighting the move.

Check yourself

A bullish break of structure requires price to…

  1. Close above the most recent swing high correct
  2. Merely wick above the swing high
  3. Close below the most recent swing low

A close beyond the level is what confirms it. A wick alone can just be a rejection.
